Objective Burma

Picture
See it - The Japanese got more than they bargained for when they decided to mess with Errol Flynn.  This time, Flynn plays the role of an American soldier commanding a handful of men who successfully complete a mission but must trek through miles of jungle to get to their rendezvous point.  You know what that means – a high bad guy body count.  There are three good combat sequences and a couple other smaller skirmishes.  Different parts reminded me a lot of “Tears of the Sun” and “We Were Soldiers.”  This film is a little racist, but I think it’s forgivable when you consider we were at war with Japan when it was released.  All in all, a classic first-rate WWII movie. 3.5 action rating

Oblivion

Picture
A sci-fi gem with great visuals and the best twist in years. 3.5 out of 5 action rating.

Olympus Has Fallen

Picture
"Die Hard" meets "Air Force One" meets "In the Line of Fire." 4 out of 5 action rating.

One Eyed Jacks

See it -  Where are all those people who said Marlon Brando couldn’t play a cowboy?  This is a long epic western, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.  It’s the Ben-Hur of westerns.   Believe it or not, Marlon Brando is incredible as a cowboy.  And this movie is incredible.  The only film Brando ever directed, this is a tale of treachery, anguish, and revenge.   It has a great script full of unforgettable quotes that will stick with you forever.  And just to clarify, the character's name is not “One Eyed Jack.”  The meaning is much deeper.  In a sense, we are all two-faced, and one side is ugly and eye-less. We are all one-eyed Jack’s.  Pretty deep for a western.  Now for the part you really care about.  The action is spread out because the movie is long.  It is a little slow toward the middle, but there are multiple gunfights and plenty of danger and suspense throughout.  This movie really has it all, and I highly recommend it.  3.5 action rating

Only the Valiant

Picture
See it – One of the better cavalry movies you’re going to see.  Gregory Peck commands a small group of men charged with holding an Indian pass.  The only catch is that the mutinous men hate Peck’s guts and want him dead more than the Indians.  Reminded me a lot of “They Came to Cordura,” except it’s set in the wild untamed west.  Full of cavalry/Indian battles and a climactic ending. 3.5 action rating

Operation Crossbow

Picture
This WWII Brit flick is about a secret mission that sends agents disguised as engineers into a Nazi rocket factory.  Although the plot has lots of holes, the mission is simple enough.  They must help sabotage the rockets in the factory. Unfortunately, this movie lacks big name actors, but more importantly, lacks action.  There is only one fight, which takes place at the very end.  Of course, not all action consists of battles.  There is some suspense throughout the movie, but I couldn’t help but feel that this film could have been much much better.  2 action rating

Operation Pacific

Picture
More than just a WWII submarine movie.  It actually has some surface battles.  But there are only a couple battles.  Much of the movie takes place on land back at the port.  General consensus: pretty dull for a John Wayne movie. 2.5 action rating
