The Immortals

Picture
3.5 action rating

Immortal Sergeant

Picture
See it – The heroic WWII tale of a patrol that gets ambushed and then lost in the desert.  With no vehicles and no water, the survivors battle the elements and the enemy.  Eventually, they come across an oasis guarded by Nazis. They must choose whether to turn themselves in or fight! The numerous flashbacks get a little annoying, but they are necessary in explaining Henry Fonda’s character.   A surprisingly good movie about bravery and redemption.  And a good action movie with some cool fight scenes, including a sandstorm battle.  2.5 action rating

Inception

Picture
Though technically it falls under the suspense/thriller category, this uniquely entertaining movie has its fair share of action.  With one of the most original plots since “The Matrix,” it is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.  As for the action, there are a couple gunfights, but none more compelling than a snowy outpost battle that felt like it came straight out of “Call of Duty.”  Yet most of the action is found in the fast pace of the film as it counts down to its final defining moment. 3 action rating

The Indian Fighter

Picture
See it – Kirk Douglas plays an experienced Indian fighter in charge of protecting some settlers.  This movie is actually very well done.  Douglas is magnetic as usual, and the Native Americans are viewed in a positive light.  Plus, there’s an exceptional fort battle that you don’t want to miss. 3 action rating

The Inglorious Bastards (1978)

Picture
Skip it – The recent Quentin Tarantino movie of the same name was not a remake of this low budget 70’s B-movie.  It just stole the title (although technically it’s spelled slightly different).  This WWII film is horribly campy at times, but it is downright exciting.  A very action-packed, R-rated war movie that tries to play off the success of “Dirty Dozen” and “Von Ryan’s Express.”  Poor acting and poor overall quality, but if you are looking to be entertained for an hour and a half, it might be worth your while. 4 action rating
